Steve Schleiker

Steve Schleiker, who currently serves as the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. Steve took office in January 2023, but his public service journey began long before that.

Steve has been an integral part of El Paso County since 1999. He previously served two terms as the El Paso County Assessor, where he made significant contributions to the community.  During his tenure as Assessor, Steve received the 2017 Downtown Civil Servant Star Award and was named the 2019 Assessor of the Year for the State of Colorado. His commitment to fiscal responsibility and government efficiency led to the implementation of new technologies that enhanced transparency and efficiency in the appraisal processes. By the end of 2022, he had returned over $650,000 back to the county general fund. As Clerk and Recorder, Steve continues to champion these initiatives, along with a strong focus on customer service and effectiveness across departments such as Motor Vehicle, Elections, Recording, and Clerk to the Board.

Steve graduated from Widefield High School in 1987 and then joined the United States Marine Corps.  His service included Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, and Deny Flight. In 1993, he was named first runner-up for the John W. Finn Aviation Ordnance Man of the Year award for the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology Management, a Master’s Degree in Project Management, and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration.

Steve and his wife, Denise reside on the west side of Colorado Springs, and both are active members of the Air Force Academy Community Chapel. He serves on several local boards and is a member of various professional associations.

Steve is committed to protecting citizens’ democratic right to vote and ensuring transparent, accurate, fair, and secure elections. His dedication to public service and community well-being shines through his work.
