There are important lessons to learn from the 2020 presidential election.

In the days just after the election, it looked like over 72 million people in the United States voted anti-Bible (and later estimates put the total at over 81 million). This was in an election where we had the clearest choice in a generation. Now, that’s a big statement.

But if you look at the party platforms—what these candidates stood for—there were tens of millions of people who voted for “abortion” even after birth, which would allow a child that’s been born and is totally outside the womb to be killed.

There were tens of millions of Americans that voted for transgenderism and homosexuality—putting no restrictions on it, and even promoting it.

So regardless of what the outcome was—who became the actual president—one of the lessons to learn is that America is in a moral crisis. Possibly more than 50 percent have totally forsaken what the Word of God says. They’re letting emotions or something else influence them. The idea that 50 percent of Americans have rejected biblical morality is a difficult thing to accept..

And, while it is much worse than I thought it was, the truth is we need to deal with it. This isn’t over yet!

The Church Needs to Wake Up

If anything, this ought to wake up a sleeping church. This ought to wake us up to remember we are the salt and light of the world!

In the 1800s, the great evangelist Charles Finney said that if America ever falls away from God, and from the freedoms and foundations that God established in this nation, the responsibility has to be put at the feet of the clergy, because we are the salt and light of this world. I guarantee you that is absolutely true.

So the lessons we learned from 2020 are that America is in a dire situation morally and the responsibility for it lies at the feet of believers—primarily the clergy.

I’m not condemned, but I’m also not complacent. I’m motivated to start taking an even greater stand on these issues because the way America voted shows that the body of Christ has not been influencing the world—the world has been influencing the body of Christ.

The American Worldview Inventory survey of Christians, conducted by George Barna, was released just before this last election. Your worldview is the lens you look at the world through. It can be influenced by the Bible, or it can be influenced by something else.

You would think that among those who say they’re Christians, there would be a strong biblical foundation and morality, and yet the survey reveals just the opposite.

For example, of the Evangelical Christians who were surveyed, 52 percent said there is no absolute moral truth.

That’s just terrible.

In other words, over half of the Evangelical Christians say that morality is a moving target and it changes with the times. Any person who’s ever read the Bible knows that is totally contrary to what the Word of God teaches. Right and wrong hasn’t changed.

Standing for Truth

God said “I am the Lord, I change not” (Mal. 3:6). The Lord didn’t leave it up to us to decide what is right and wrong. God is the Creator, and as Creator He’s the One who established what was right and wrong. The Bible clearly teaches this!

Any person who says there is no absolute moral truth is basically rejecting the Bible. They may not realize they’re saying that, but that is what they’re actually saying. They think it’s up to them to decide what is moral and what is immoral.

There is only one God, and you are not Him.

You do not have the right to pick and choose what is right and what is wrong, and yet 52 percent of Evangelical Christians say they reject absolute moral truth. They reject the teachings of the Bible.

That’s serious, and it’s reflected in election results that show tens of millions people voted for a party platform that was completely against the Word of God in nearly every single detail.

So the lessons we learned are that America is in a moral crisis, and Christians need to stand up! We are the ones that God has anointed to stand up and speak out on these things.
